At Newton Preschool, wonder and curiosity lead the way to a lifelong love of learning. Our year-round, full-day program is flexible and child-centered, allowing children’s interests and questions to guide their learning while teachers provide thoughtful support and encouragement.
In our warm, culturally responsive environment, children are empowered to explore new ideas, build relationships, solve problems, and discover the joy of learning. Our whole-child approach comes to life through play-based learning and the Project Approach, creating meaningful opportunities for children to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and personally.
Why Choose Newton Preschool?
A Day at Newton Preschool
At Newton Center, we strive to instill in your child a lifelong love for learning before they enter kindergarten. Through hands-on experiences that support a child’s academic excellence, social-emotional learning, and personal growth, we create a joy filled learning experience full of play and exploration.
Each day, your child's activities will include:
Circle Time
A warm and welcoming part of our day where we gather as a community to connect, learn, and prepare for the day.
Exploration Stations
Hands-on activities that integrate literacy, STEM, art, and social-emotional learning through guided play and inquiry.
Centers
Children engage in play-based learning centers such as dramatic play, art, blocks, sensory exploration, and problem-solving activities. Teachers encourage exploration, social interaction, and new experiences.
Outdoor Play
Daily opportunities for active movement, outdoor games, and social play using safe, age-appropriate equipment.
Rest Time
A quiet period for children to nap or rest, with cots provided.
Mealtimes
We believe that food is not one size fits all for children. Each child has their own nutritional needs and therefore we ask that parents provide all meals and snacks for their child.
Young children are naturally curious, and our classrooms are thoughtfully designed to nurture that curiosity by providing ample opportunities for exploration and creativity.
Each classroom offers engaging, age-appropriate spaces where children can learn through play and build meaningful relationships. With low student-to-teacher ratios, our teachers are able to provide the attention, guidance, and support each child's needs to feel confident and thrive.

FAQS
1) What is the most important impact we want our learning approach to have on children?
We want children to see themselves as capable, confident learners. When a child asks, “I wonder why…?”, we see an opportunity to investigate together. Their questions might lead to a conversation, an experiment, a project, or even a new direction for the classroom. By following children’s curiosity, we create an environment where they feel heard, valued, and excited to discover what comes next.
2) How is the Whole Child approach applied in our classrooms and curriculum?
We support children’s development across every area of growth:
- Social-Emotional: Children practice sharing ideas, expressing feelings, resolving conflicts, building friendships, and working together.
- Cognitive: Children develop problem-solving, critical thinking, early math, literacy, and science skills through hands-on experiences.
- Physical: Children build coordination, strength, and confidence through outdoor play, movement, art, sensory experiences, and hands-on activities.
- Creative: Art, music, dramatic play, building, and open-ended materials give children opportunities to express ideas and think creatively.
3) What is the Project Approach and how is it implemented in the classroom?
The Project Approach begins with children’s interests, questions, and observations. Projects can develop over several days or weeks as children investigate a topic more deeply. For example, if children become curious about construction vehicles, teachers might build a project around their questions: Why do some trucks have big wheels? How do construction workers build a building? As children investigate, a single topic can naturally connect literacy, math, science, art, social-emotional learning, and problem-solving. Teachers guide the process by helping children research, observe, experiment, document their thinking, and share what they discover.
4) What do we mean when we say we are play-based, student initiated, and teacher supported?
Our classrooms include thoughtfully prepared centers and exploration stations where children can make choices and follow their interests. A child might:
- Build a tall structure with blocks and discover what makes it stable.
- Create a pretend restaurant while practicing language, social skills, counting, and problem-solving.
- Explore sensory materials while making predictions and observations.
- Choose an art project and experiment with colors, shapes, and different materials.
- Investigate plants, insects, or other discoveries during outdoor play.
5) Classroom Ratio
We strive to maintain staff-child ratios of 1:5 in our 18-month to 36-month classroom and 1:7 in our 24-month to 48-month classroom.
6) Enrollment Eligibility
To join the Newton Preschool community, children must meet the following requirements:
